Our Competitive Teams

Our USAG Compulsory and Optional Team is by invitation only. The USAG Developmental Program, formerly known as  Junior Olympic (JO) gymnastics, is a competitive program run by USA Gymnastics for athletes interested in artistic gymnastics. In the Developmental Program levels range from 1-10, with level one as the introductory level with the most basic requirements and skills. Gymnasts progress at their own pace, gymnasts must achieve a minimum score in competition in order to progress to the next level. A gymnast is not allowed to skip any levels but may compete in more than one level per year in every program but men’s artistic. In men's artistic, athletes compete in one level per year.  In the Developmental Program, levels 1-5 are compulsory level meaning the routines have a set elements and music with a couple of variations allowed for individual choice.  Levels 6-10 are called Optional where each gymnast chooses from a set of elements and choreograph their own routines.  These elements have skill ratings and they need to meet a requirement of certain rated skills for each apparatus. 

Our XCEL Team is by invitation only.  XCEL is an alternative USA Gymnastics competitive program offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts who did not want the higher commitment level/structure of the  Developmental Program. The goal of XCEL is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience.  XCEL gymnasts go to most of the same competitions as the  Developmental Program  gymnasts but compete in different sessions.

The Synergy Sportz Pre-Team is an invitation only, accelerated program into the world of competitive gymnastics. Pre-Team gymnasts are chosen for their strength, flexibility, body control and ability to follow directions. 

Pre-Team gymnasts will be grouped by age and skills. Pre-Team trains two hours twice a week for a total of four hours per week. This is a much faster paced training program than our regular classes. Gymnasts will develop and master skills needed to compete at the entry levels of the USAG  Developmental Program  and Xcel programs. In addition, gymnasts will learn competition routines, rules and etiquette.

The Synergy Sportz Pre-Team will compete in an end of the year Showcase Competition in June. The Showcase Competition is run to mock an USAG sanctioned meet, with level and age brackets, judging and scoring by one of our competitive team coaches and awards!

The Showcase Competition is followed by a Pre-Team party at which time your gymnast will receive their letter of invitation to one of the Synergy Sportz entry level USAG  Developmental Program  or Xcel Teams. Please note some younger gymnasts may need a second session in the Pre-Team program.

The Synergy Sportz Pre-Team is a yearlong program that begins on or about July 1st and ends on or about June 30th. Tuition covers the year long training program, Showcase Competition (including awards, judging, and admission) and Pre-Team after party.
